DESCRIPTION:
EPW - L. Leroy & Cie, Paris, "Marine Service Hydrographique" deck watch made for French Navy, 65mm, silver OF original case marked "Marine Service Hydrographique 20989" to its rear, signed silver cuvette, white enamel SS dial, SW-SS, lever escapement with capped escape wheel, 17J, gilt mvt, s#20989 with matching serial number within case and to dial. An impressive original example, L. Leroy & Cie deck watches are rare and this is the first example we have handled.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, few short scratches at perimeter of barrel bridge outside ratchet wheel, few micro-fine scratches elsewhere; virtually flawless dial with only a minuscule pinpoint surface nick to the upper right rim of the seconds-register; nearly mint hands; case rear and cuvette open well short of 90 degrees (to approximately 70 degrees), case shows little wear, a pronounced dark patina, fine scratches to rear, cuvette with a ding toward its lower right perimeter and a crescent shaped patch of abrasion at its right perimeter, excellent marking details to case rear; tight bow, crown shows little wear; flat glass crystal has a few fine scratches.
